What is MRI?
MRI stands for "Magnetic Resonance Imaging." It does not use X-rays for imaging but instead uses a magnetic field, so patients are not exposed to harmful radiation.
Since approximately two-thirds of the human body is water, MRI is excellent for diagnostics. The examination is based on the altered behavior of the body's fluid areas within a magnetic field, utilizing the body's natural magnetic properties and a powerful external magnet. Diseases in the body cause changes in the water content of tissues and cells, making them visible.
MRI diagnostics have become an essential tool in modern medicine, greatly assisting doctors in diagnosing and determining therapy. It is currently the most accurate radiological procedure for many indications. MRI combines the advantages of CT and ultrasound, making it suitable for use as an initial diagnostic examination.
With this method, blood vessels can be thoroughly examined, as well as the brain, abdominal organs, spine, bones, joints, and the large vessels in the chest area. The examination is completely painless and safe, with no known side effects, making it possible to repeat as needed. It can also be safely used in the examination of children.
